Below, you’ll find all the important details about audition preparation classes, audition dates, and participation requirements for this year’s production. Whether you're returning to the stage or joining us for the first time, we can’t wait to share this magical experience with you.

Any dancer, age 8+, enrolled in a ballet class at SMASH
Please only audition if you are committed to participating in the production if casted.
Please only audition if you are fully able to commit to the Cast Requirements detailed below.

Dancers should attend the audition that correlates with their SMASH Summer 2025 ballet class level. If they did not attend summer classes, they should attend the audition based on their 2024-2025 ballet class level. You can confirm your dancers’ classes on their Ellever profile.
WHAT TO WEAR
Regular ballet class dress code
Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair pulled back in a bun.
Boys: Form fitting athletic clothing, socks or black ballet shoes.
AUDITION NOTE
As with most performances of The Nutcracker worldwide, the nature of the production is one with specific numbers of dancers in each role. Due to costuming allocations, we cannot guarantee a role for every dancer that auditions. We strive to find solutions that allow every eager dancer to perform, so please do not be deterred from auditioning!
PARTY BOY GUESTS
Have a child interested in being a Party Boy Guest? We love having guest actors join our Party Scene!
Who: Children (male or female), age 8-13, interested in being cast as a Party Boy. Some stage experience - dancing or acting - is helpful.
