Student Audition Information

Any dancer age 8+ enrolled in a ballet class at SMASH may audition.

Please only audition if you are committed to participating in the production if casted.

Please only audition if you are fully able to commit to the Cast Requirements detailed below.

Audition prep classes will be held August 8 & 15:

Level 6/7: 4:00-5:30

Level 4/5: 4:00-5:30

Pointe 5/6/7: 5:30-6:30

Level 2/3: 5:30-6:30

Check in begins @ 3:30 pm

Check in begins @ 3:30 pm

Audition 4:00-6:00 pm

Dancers wanting to audition tumbling skills: 6:45-7:00 pm

Level 5 dancers wanting to audition on pointe: 7:00-8:15 pm

SMASH Level 3

Check in begins @ 6:00 pm

Audition 6:30-7:45 pm

SMASH Levels 6 & 7

Check in begins @ 3:50 pm

Audition 4:20-6:45 pm

Dancers wanting to audition tumbling skills: 6:45-7:00 pm

Dancers wanting to audition on pointe: 7:00-8:15 pm

Please wear regular ballet class dress code

Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair pulled back in a bun.

Boys: Form fitting athletic clothing, socks or black ballet shoes.

CAST REQUIREMENTS

Ballet Class Attendance

All cast members must be enrolled in a ballet class at SMASH Dance Academy. Regular attendance in class is expected.

All cast members dancing on pointe in the show will be required to maintain a consistently high attendance in their ballet and pointe classes in order to perform on pointe.

Production Fees

Cast Member Fee - $50 per dancer

Character Fee - $75 per casted character

(Party Girl character fee - $100)

Mandatory Cast & Parent Meeting

All cast members and a parent are required to attend a Nutcracker Cast Meeting Wednesday August 23 (time TBA, will be late evening)

Volunteer Hours

Each family is required to fill a volunteer assignment for the production. Most assignments happen on show day and are no more than 3 hours of commitment.

Rehearsal & Performance Commitment

Nutcracker rehearsals take place weekly on Saturdays between 8am-2pm. An exact schedule with each character's allotted time will be provided upon casting.

Each dancer is allowed to miss only one rehearsal. Please look at your family's schedule for the fall and ensure they will only have one planned absence. Casted dancers who fail to maintain this rehearsal commitment will be removed from the production. No refund will be granted.

Rehearsal Commitment:

August 26

September 9, 16, 23*, 30

October 7, 14*, 28

November 4

Absences will not be allowed for the final 2 weeks of rehearsal and any rehearsals in the theatre.

*Pro Track excused September 23 for Showcase and October 14 for IMPACT

Mandatory Rehearsals:

November 11, 18 - Mandatory, full day rehearsals

December 1 - Tech Rehearsal @ Mountain View High School

December 2- Dress Rehearsal @ Mountain View High School
